Stan and Ollie

I started 2019 on a good note watching this rather good biopic of the final tour of the comedy greats Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy,
In 1953, in a bid to rediscover their fame, the comic duo began a tour of British Music Halls performing their comic sketches to an ever increasing and enthusiastic audience. With personal appearances and their increasingly difficult personal lives the duo, joined by their Wives, slowly realise that their time's as their comic characters is rapidly coming to an end. Health and a world that is hungry for new acts as well as the march of time leaves them with some difficult and heart breaking decisions that slowly leads them to that final performance.
Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly are truly brilliant in the lead roles and they soon stop being Steve and John and become Stan and Ollie in the eyes of the viewer. Their wives, brilliantly portrayed by  Nina Arianda and Shirley Henderson, bring an extra layer of drama and story into the film.
All in all this is one of the best films I have watched in a long time, no over dramatics or silly embellishments, just a story about 2 fading legends who refuse to go quietly into the dark.
I give it 5 stars and recommend whole heartedly  that yo go see. it.
